Dot Peen & Scribing Machines

Mechanical engravers and markers for part identification.

Marking by dot peen and scribing offer permanent, tamper-proof marking. All our marking systems are designed to be integrated into any production process, to directly mark all metallic and plastic parts, whatever the shape or surface finish.

Our historical brand Technifor invented dot-peen marking in 1981 to meet the growing coding and identification needs of industrial parts. Future-oriented, Gravotech continues to develop solutions dedicated to the progress of industrial engraving and marking and offers several technologies: pneumatic, electromagnetic, or scribing. Our range of integrated dot peen marking machines and scribing machines are the most reliable and efficient on the market

Our dot peen marking and scribing marking systems offer permanent, legible, and deep marking on metals and plastics at a low purchase cost and high return on investment. Their integration on production lines is quick and easy thanks to their compact design and full connectivity

3 ranges – 3 technologies

Gravotech offers a wide range of easily integrated dot peen and scribing machines for the direct and permanent marking (DPM) of your industrial parts.

As the inventor of dot peen technology in 1981, Gravotech has never ceased to expand its permanent marking know-how. Today we are able to offer our customers two types of dot peen technologies:

  • Our pneumatic dot peen machines are the best for marking applications requiring a very short cycle time to meet the speed requirements of industrial sectors.

  • The electromagnetic marking machines are more suitable for applications that high-precision and consistency. It is particularly recommended for DataMatrix code marking.

Scribing machines use a carbide or diamond tip to apply a permanent marking directly to the material, from plastic to the hardest steels (up to 62HRC).

Unlike dot peen, the tip does not vibrate but slides along the surface, thus creating a continuous groove. The result is very clear and aesthetic. This process is very quiet, therefore particularly useful for marking hollow parts with high resonance, tubes and sheets.

Our scribing machines combine effective electronics, software and guarantee faultless production. With their robust build quality and limited maintenance needs, they are ideal for heavy industrial applications.

Dot peen: technifor’s historical know-how

The dot peen technology was invented in 1985 by Technifor, now part of Gravotech.

Technifor was founded in 1981 and has quickly become a worldwide-known leader in traceability marking machines.

The Technifor team invented the dot peen technology in 1985, only 4 years after the company creation. The dot peen marking process is declined in two technologies: pneumatic (the fastest) and electromagnetic (the most precise). It has been widely adopted by manufacturers of sensitive parts such as aerospace and automotive because dot peen marking does not affect the mechanical properties of the part. 30 years later, tens of thousands of dot peen marking machines had been sold in more than 100 countries and implemented in the production lines of international companies.

Technifor extended its range to scribing machines and started experimenting with laser marking in the early 90s, proving its forward-looking spirit and constant innovation.

In 2021, the historic brands Technifor and Gravograph merged and became Gravotech. Today, this dot peen technology is available with the standalone dot peen marking machine (IMPACT) or the integrated marking heads (XF510m, XF510p and their highly communicating control unit XCOM).
